School Smart: Finding Creative Cleaning Solutions

Hi. I’m Rosemary and I’m in charge of cleaning services for a large university. It really is a challenge. From graffiti on walls to chemical spills in science labs, I ensure that anything unsightly is cleaned up quickly and safely. In the course of my job, I’ve learnt that choosing the correct cleaning service for a task is the key to efficiency. I employ a general services company to do everyday cleaning, however, we regularly hire specialist carpet cleaners and definitely use qualified services for problems like chemical spills. Lots of my family members and friends call me when they have particular cleaning problems in their businesses. I figure that the knowledge I’ve collected over the years could be helpful, so I’ve started this blog. Do let me know if it’s useful and may your surfaces always be bright!

4 Essential Tips for Steam Cleaning Your Carpet

by Phillip Clark

While it might be hard to admit, standard vacuum cleaning might not be enough to achieve clean and fluffy-looking carpets. Besides, hiring a professional carpet cleaner might be costly, especially when performing this task is as easy as a simple vacuum. Therefore, knowing how to steam clean your carpet using the best cleaning agents can leave your carpet looking clean without much hassle. Steam cleaning your carpet not only leaves it looking clean but also eliminates dust mites, mould and bacteria harmful to your health. Consider these essential tips when steam cleaning your carpet.

Begin by Clearing the Floor

Before steam cleaning your carpet is to declutter your floors, the first and perhaps the most crucial step. Move all the furniture and other items to a different room and clean the floor. If you have heavy furniture, place pieces of foil or wax paper underneath to protect them from excess moisture. If you lack ample space, move your furniture to one side of the room to create more space for steam cleaning.

Vacuum Your Carpet First

Before steam cleaning your carpet, start by vacuuming it. This process helps to remove any dirt and dust from the floor. Vacuuming is also essential in dealing with carpet beetle concerns. Ideally, run the vacuum cleaner over the carpet twice or thrice. Run the vacuum in one direction and repeat the same in the opposite direction to loosen the carpet fibres. Vacuum cleaning ensures that any dirt or grime doesn't flow back into your carpet when steam cleaning.

Pre-Treat Any Stains on Your Carpet

Sometimes, heat generated by a steam cleaner can make specific stains challenging to get rid of. Carpet stains often return after applying shampoo. That's because once the carpet dries, the fibres force the stain onto the surface. Thus, it's wise to pre-treat such stains before commencing the steam cleaning process. On the other hand, consider modern trends that don't include carpeted floors if your carpet is considerably stained and has lost its aesthetic appeal.

Work Your Steam Cleaner Slowly

Another essential tip when steam cleaning your carpet is to work slowly. Press the equipment's trigger while working out of the room. Consider going backward and forward slowly. Push the steam cleaner forward gradually to place the cleaning solution and water. After this, pull the machine backwards slowly to suck up the liquid and water. To achieve a squeaky-clean look, go over the area a second time.
